The NP263XHD (New Process 263 Extra Heavy Duty) was introduced as the OEM transfer case in 2001–2007 Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD trucks equipped with the Allison transmission and high-output engines such as the 6.6L Duramax diesel and 8.1L big block V8. Designed to exceed the capabilities of the standard NP263HD, the XHD model features reinforced internals, a thicker rear output shaft, and larger bearings to accommodate higher torque and towing capacity.

This electronically controlled, chain-driven unit includes a 2.72:1 planetary low-range gear ratio and a fixed rear output yoke. It was built specifically for use with the Allison 1000 transmission in 4×4 applications and can be identified by RPO code NP1. Common factory issues, such as pump rub damage and rear case wear, have been permanently resolved through our upgraded design and remanufacturing process.
