This NP261XHD remanufactured transfer case for sale is a direct replacement unit designed for 1999–2007 GM 2500HD and 3500HD trucks. This is a manually shifted, heavy-duty transfer case identified by RPO code NP2. It serves as the OEM unit for vehicles equipped with 6.6L Duramax or 8.1L Vortec engines and features a 29-spline input shaft compatible with both the Allison automatic and ZF 6-speed manual transmissions. To ensure a flawless fit for your GM vehicle, we kindly ask that you provide your vehicle information—and if possible your Assembly #—in the field box before ordering. Once your order is placed, we’ll use this information to verify that we’re sending you the correct unit.
- Each 261XHD unit is fully rebuilt with upgraded internal components to enhance durability, lifespan, and overall performance. Our precision remanufacturing process includes a newly enhanced, upgraded aluminum rear case half to address the widespread “pump rub” issue commonly found in 261 transfer cases. This upgrade prevents internal oil loss and potential failure, ensuring your transfer case performs flawlessly under towing, off-road, or commercial-use conditions.
About This Unit
The NP261XHD (New Process 261 Extra Heavy Duty) was introduced as the OEM transfer case in 1999–2007 Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD trucks equipped with high-output engines such as the 6.6L Duramax diesel and 8.1L big block V8. Designed to exceed the capabilities of the standard NP261HD, the XHD model features reinforced internals, a thicker rear output shaft, and larger bearings to accommodate higher torque and towing capacity.
This manually controlled, chain-driven 261 transfer case includes a 2.72:1 planetary low-range gear ratio and a fixed rear output yoke. It was built specifically for use with the Allison 1000 transmission in 4×4 applications and can be identified by RPO code NP2.Common factory issues, such as pump rub damage and rear case wear, have been permanently resolved through our upgraded design and remanufacturing process.
This 261 GM transfer case is currently on sale — making now the perfect time to replace or upgrade your OEM unit with a fully remanufactured model built to exceed factory standards.
Note: Before completing your order, please verify that you require the NP261XHD model, not the NP261HD. If you’re seeking the standard-duty version for 6.0L gas trucks with the 4L80E transmission, check out our NP261HD Transfer Case.

Return/Warranty Policy
Are Returns Accepted?
Certainly, you may return an item within 14 days from the date of purchase. However, returns are not permissible if the product has been fitted into a vehicle, or has been altered, modified, or damaged. Refunds issued will not cover the initial shipping fees, and the responsibility for the cost of returning the item to us, which may vary by location and carrier rates, falls on the customer.
Will there be a restocking fee?
To process a return with us, you’ll need to obtain a return authorization. Please note that a restocking fee of 10% applies to all returns. Understanding the complexities of drivetrain diagnostics is exhausting, but before making a purchase, please ensure that the issue with your vehicle is indeed due to the transfer case. If a unit has been mounted in your vehicle, it becomes non-returnable. We encourage you to thoroughly verify the need for a transfer case replacement prior to placing an order. Should you need to initiate a return, reach out to us within 14 days of receipt.
